New School: Radical Student Union Sit-In

So good to see that successful student body actions are happening somewhere...

Students from the New School's Radical Student Union have occupied the dining hall for the past 3 days, demanding a greater student body voice and the resignation of President Bob Kerrey, Executive VP Jim Murtha, and "Board Member/torturer" Robert B. Millard (he's chairman of the executive committee of military contractor
L-3 Communications, which provides a large percentage of the “intelligence personnel” employed in illegal detention centers in Iraq, Afghanistan, and Guantanamo Bay, and is currently facing four lawsuits from Iraqis tortured at Abu Ghraib.)

After three days of occupation the students have achieved some major victories, including an agreement not to press charges or impose academic punishments for students involved in the protest, the implementation of a Socially Responsible Investing (SRI) committee within the university, more autonomy and power for Student Senate to communicate with the student body, more representation on the Board of Trustees for students and faculty, and finally the creation of more student study space on campus.

Blah, Academics

So...
it's really hard to get things done, when you're in school, and suddenly it's late November/December and finals are due. But hopefully this blog will flourish over the next few months.

And hey-- maybe we can all try to write things for Gastrotica as well.

But anyways-- how do we plan things, or do things when in school? How do we get around these ridiculous work schedules? Ideas?

i just thought this was an interesting take on the issues facing capitalism....

the opening line: "we are a nation of consumers....and that's ok!" is particularly striking
